Video

I made a video today. It is about what I did during the May Long Weekend. Watch and enjoy. It has beach, kayaking, fireworks and some great music.

Daily Photo — Kayak Adventures

Over the long weekend, I travelled to Bowser on Vancouver Island to celebrate my friend Brodie's aunt's fiftieth birthday. It was a great adventure. We had a massive clam bake on saturday and then a great kayak adventure on Sunday. For the clam bake, Brodie dug two massive pits on the beach and lined them with rocks. In the pits, two fires were built and burned for 6 hours to get the rocks nice and hot. Once the rocks were caliente the coals were removed and seaweed was thrown on the rocks. With the steam rising, the clams, mussels and crab were thrown on the seaweed, covered with a tarp and steamed for one hour. Then the feast began. Delicious.

The Beach where we did the clam bake, obviously at low tide. The real beach is off the to right of the picture.

On Sunday, Brodie and I did a multi-hour kayak adventure from Bowser to Hornby Island. We saw seals, Bald Eagles and lots of fish. Surfing the ocean whitecaps is one of the best parts of kayaking. We set out at low tide and had to carry the boats quite a distance out to the water. This was made all the more difficult by wearing flip flops while walking on slippery, seaweed covered rocks. But we made it and had fun surfing the rough seas on our way to Hornby Island.

You get some great speeds as the wave pushes your forward further into the expansive ocean. Now I really want to buy a sea kayak so I can do this every weekend.

Daily Photo — Vancouver Tracks

Last week, Vancouver was extremely sunny. People were outside enjoying the weather, before the rain clouds reappeared. So, I got outside and walked all the way from Waterfront to Kitslano beach taking pictures. It took me about 3 hours to walk the whole way. I listened to music, enjoyed the sunshine and took numerous pictures. Here are some of the pictures that I like from my walk.

Train tracks as seen from just outside the Waterfront Station in downtown Vancouver.

Daily Photo — The Beef Eater

The Tower of London. This was one of the famous Beef Eaters. I always remember them from the stories of Paddington the bear.

Daily Photo — Young Thai Boy

In 2008, My friends Cam, Alicia and I volunteered at a tiny orphanage in Northern Thailand, near Chaing Rai. We met some amazing young people and thoroughly enjoyed spending a week with them. We played soccer, chased a pig, had a dance party, did some art and taught English. It was a great place to spend a week.

Daily Photo — Climbing

An old climbing picture. I think that this picture is from 2009? That would make the most sense.
